President Anastasiades sent a message to Turkish Cypriots on Wednesday night by saying that they need to "finally realize that as long as they depend, and will depend, on Turkey, they will suffer the same as the Turkish people". He emphasized, "It's time for them to understand that they have much more in common with the Greek Cypriots than with Turkey".
"It's time for them to understand that they have much more in common with the Greek Cypriots than with Turkey."
"To prove our determination and political will (to solve the Cyprus problem), we have made concrete and often reprehensible concessions in order to pass the message that we want peaceful coexistence and we ultimately want to create those conditions that will allow us to move forward together", the President stressed in his speech at the annual General Assembly of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce (CCCI/KEBE).
He said that the solution to the Cyprus problem is "a goal, a vision" that was set from the beginning of his presidency and was manifested during his years in politics.
"Unfortunately, despite our efforts, Turkey's goal remains unchanged", the President stated as he highlighted Turkey's usurping of Greek Cypriot land in Karpasia to further militarize the island, their constant threats and their insistence on a two-state solution.
When asked regarding the possibility of being a candidate in the upcoming presidential elections, President Anastasiadis said that his own term "ends definitively at the end of the current five years" and "on March 1, 2023, I hand over the presidency".
