If you woke up this morning feeling a heavy sense of doom, don't panic. It's not just the standard "Back to Work" Monday Blues. It’s actually BYRON, our resident low-pressure romantic, who has decided to extend his stay and turn the entire island into a scene from a moody 19th-century novel.
The weather system is in full swing today, treating us to a performance that is decidedly over-the-top. The weather will be mostly cloudy with intervals of rain and isolated thunderstorms throughout the day. And because simple rain isn't dramatic enough for a poet, there is also a solid chance of hail. Think of them as icy little verses pelting your car roof.
The winds are joining the chorus, blowing mainly southeasterly to southwesterly. They’ll be moderate at times, but if you are in a windward area, expect them to get strong (up to 5 Beaufort), just to make sure your umbrella turns inside out. The sea is following suit, looking decidedly rough.
Temperature-wise, reality has hit hard. We are officially done with the warm 20s. Today, the mercury will struggle to reach 17°C inland, 19°C on the coast, and a shivering 8°C up in the higher mountains. It is officially "wear a real jacket" weather.
As for the rest of the week, Byron clearly hasn't finished his manuscript yet. Tonight, tomorrow (Tuesday), Wednesday, and Thursday will see a continuation of this moody saga: mostly cloudy skies, more showers, more thunderstorms, and yes, the continued risk of hail. Temperatures are expected to drop even further, settling slightly below the seasonal average. So, embrace the gloom and try to enjoy the poetic misery of it all!
