Caught on camera? New website lets you check traffic fines

A user-friendly online portal launches January 2025 to make tracking fines simple and stress-free.

Newsroom

Starting January 7, 2025, drivers in Cyprus will have a new, hassle-free way to check if they’ve been caught by traffic cameras.  The Traffic Department, in collaboration with the system’s contractor, is rolling out a dedicated website that will allow citizens to search for pending fines online.

In an interview with Kathimerini's Marios Christophi, Assistant Director of the Traffic Department, Harris Evripidou, explained how the system will work. Citizens will need to enter their vehicle registration number and ID card number into the online portal. In an instant, they’ll be able to see if a fine has been issued against their vehicle.

This online search feature for fines is scheduled to go live on January 7, 2025 — pending approval from the Legal Service.

Streamlining the Process

This initiative is the latest step toward modernizing traffic enforcement in Cyprus. Earlier steps included the introduction of the photoradarlist system, which is expected to launch at the beginning of 2025 once all approvals are in place. Additionally, the etol system, which helps vehicle owners indicate who was driving when an offense occurred, went live on December 19, 2024.

How the New Tools Work

The etol system simplifies the process for vehicle owners who weren’t behind the wheel when an offense took place. By visiting www.CyCameraSystem.com.cy, owners can easily submit the correct driver’s details electronically. No need to send documents by mail or visit a police station — everything can be done online.

To use etol, vehicle owners need a bailiff number and password, found on the official notification letter. Lost your letter? No problem. You can call 80008009 (available weekdays from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) for assistance.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

Forgetting to submit driver details isn’t just an oversight — it’s an offense. According to Article 21 of the Motor Vehicles and Traffic Law (Law 86/72), vehicle owners who fail to provide the driver’s identity can be prosecuted.

The new system also lets you handle electronic citations directly through the website, eliminating the need to submit paper forms to the police. If the option to suggest a driver doesn’t appear online, and you haven’t done it manually, call the helpline for support.

Digital Solutions for Safer Roads

With these new tools, the Traffic Department aims to make managing traffic violations more efficient and transparent. By simplifying the process of checking and addressing fines, the hope is to encourage safer driving habits and reduce traffic offenses across the island.

So, mark your calendars for January 7, 2025. Whether you’ve been caught by a traffic cam or not, this new website promises to bring clarity, convenience, and a modern twist to traffic enforcement in Cyprus.
