In a significant step to enhance Cyprus’ maritime security, the Port and Maritime Police introduced ten new high-tech vessels at a ceremony held at Limassol Port today. These state-of-the-art boats are equipped with advanced surveillance, communication, and rescue technologies, designed to vastly improve the coastguard’s ability to protect Cyprus' coastlines, ports, and territorial waters.
The new vessels, classified as Category C, are part of a broader effort to modernize the fleet of the Hellenic Coast Guard Police. With the ability to detect and locate vessels and people from long distances, these boats are set to become essential assets in preventing maritime threats and carrying out rescues at sea.
Funded through the European Union’s Border Management Support program and co-financed by the Republic of Cyprus, the new vessels will help the Port Police respond more quickly and effectively to emergencies.
The event was attended by President Nikos Christodoulides, Chief of Police Themistos Arnaoutis, and other senior officials. Christodoulides stressed the need for continuous investment in modernizing the police fleet, highlighting the critical role these vessels will play in defending Cyprus' national integrity.
Chief of Police Arnaoutis praised the new additions as crucial to the modernization of the police force’s infrastructure, ensuring they are fully equipped to tackle both security threats and emergencies on the high seas.
The ceremony also included a warm thank you to DP World Limassol Ltd for providing the venue and logistical support.
