A Cyprus Police helicopter returned to Larnaca Airport on Friday evening after assisting Israeli authorities in battling wildfires.
The “Akritas” helicopter, part of the Police Aerial Operations Unit, landed around 5:30 p.m. after completing a firefighting mission in Israel, according to a police statement. The aircraft had departed Cyprus shortly before noon Thursday with a full crew.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Ministry of Justice and Public Order said: “The police helicopter Akritas has just landed at Larnaca Airport after successfully completing its mission. Warm thanks to the crew and all those who contributed to the effort.”
The helicopter remained in operation on Friday while in Israel, continuing to support firefighting efforts.
Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said earlier Friday that Cyprus was the first country to respond to Israel’s request for help. He made the remarks following a meeting at the Presidential Palace focused on wildfire preparedness.
