Cyprus President to join EU leaders in Vienna for high-stakes dinner

Christodoulides to shape EU strategy at Vienna summit

President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, is going to Vienna on Friday, where he will participate in a working dinner with a group of leaders from EU member states, following the invitation of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel and Austria’s Chancellor, Karl Nehammer.

The dinner will be held on Friday evening at the Austrian Chancellery and according to a written statement by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, participants will discuss the formulation of the EU’s strategic agenda in the next five years.

“In particular, the priorities of the strategic agenda for a stronger Europe, that are under formation will be discussed, such as external action, defence and security, migration and enlargement, issues on competitiveness and welfare, such as the twin transition, entrepreneurship, social welfare, as well as issues concerning the rule of law and EU principles and values” Letymbiotis added.

Upon his arrival at the Chancellery, the Austrian Chancelor will welcome President Christodoulides and they will attend a dinner together with the leaders of Denmark, Malta, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia and the President of the European Council.

The President, who returns to Cyprus on April 13, will be accompanied in Vienna by Deputy Government Spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou and other officials, the announcement concludes.
