Cyprus Sunshine Cup is re-introduced on the calendar of the International Cycling Union (UCI- Union Cycliste Internationale) and Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis has pledged that he will do his utmosτ for the Cup to regain its ''old glory.''
According to a press release, issued on Friday, the Cyprus Sunshine Cup, the iconic international Mountain Bike race hosted from 1997 until 2020, has returned to the calendar of the UCI this year thanks to the support of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.
The race began on Wednesday from ancient Amathus, in the Limassol district and will conclude this weekend in Tochni and Machaira.
Koumis said that they are thrilled because their efforts of the past eight months have yielded results with the coordinated actions between the Deputy Ministry, the Cyprus Cycling Federation and the organizers.
The Deputy Minister noted that the Cyprus Sunshine Cup was the cornerstone of the development of cycling tourism in Cyprus in the past decades, but also of the progress of cycling and the cultivation of cycling culture in the country.
Among others, Olympic medalist Jaroslav Kulhavy and Anne Terpstra of Ghost Factory, No. 14 in the world ranking, are in Cyprus for the race.
