Novak Djokovic achieved tennis immortality by clinching his first Olympic gold medal and completing the elusive career "Golden Slam" with a dramatic win over Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday.

In a gripping final at Roland Garros, Djokovic, 37, overcame the French Open and Wimbledon champion Alcaraz with a scoreline of 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2). The match, which lasted just under three hours, showcased Djokovic's resilience and skill, as he saved all eight break points he faced and excelled in both tie-breaks.

Djokovic sealed his victory with a powerful forehand winner, then celebrated by turning towards his box with arms outstretched and collapsing to his knees in tears. After a heartfelt embrace with Alcaraz, Djokovic unfurled a Serbian flag and joined his family and support team in the stands for an emotional celebration.

This win marks Djokovic as the fifth player to complete the Golden Slam—winning all four Grand Slam titles and the Olympic gold medal in singles. He joins an elite list that includes Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Andre Agassi, and Steffi Graf.

"I put my heart, my soul, everything to win gold," Djokovic told Eurosport. "I did it for my country first—Serbia."

The victory is particularly poignant for Djokovic, who faced significant challenges this year. He required knee surgery after the French Open and was initially at risk of missing the Olympics. Despite these setbacks, Djokovic's performance in Paris demonstrated his unparalleled determination and skill.

Alcaraz, 21, who was making his Olympic debut, also showed immense emotion after the match, taking home the silver medal. Italy's Lorenzo Musetti earned the bronze, defeating Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The final was a showcase of high-quality tennis, with both players exchanging impressive shots and the crowd divided between Spanish and Serbian supporters. Despite some early nerves, Alcaraz pushed Djokovic to his limits, but Djokovic's experience and mental toughness ultimately prevailed.

This Olympic triumph adds a significant achievement to Djokovic's storied career, highlighting his ability to overcome adversity and solidify his place as one of tennis's greatest players.
