Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged the international community to recognize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus during his address at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday. This marks the second consecutive year he has made this call, emphasizing the need for a two-state solution to resolve the long-standing Cyprus issue. His remarks came just hours before a scheduled meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Erdogan's speech during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly also focused heavily on the ongoing crisis in Gaza. He used strong language against Israel, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of committing "ethnic cleansing" and "genocide" against Palestinians. "Gaza has become the largest graveyard of children and women in the world," he stated, criticizing what he described as the United Nations' failure to address the situation adequately.

The Turkish President called on nations that do not recognize Palestine to do so, urging them to align themselves "on the right side of history." He expressed frustration with the UN, claiming it has become increasingly ineffective. "They are turning into a dysfunctional, cumbersome, and inert structure," he said.

Erdogan challenged international bodies and media to take action, questioning the UN Security Council's inaction in preventing violence in Gaza. "What are you waiting for to stop the massacres?" he asked, highlighting the deaths of Palestinian civilians as a result of ongoing Israeli attacks.

He reiterated the importance of establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, stating, "We cannot continue to postpone it."

Erdogan's remarks reflect Turkey's ongoing support for the recognition of Northern Cyprus and its solidarity with the Palestinian cause, framing both issues within a broader context of international rights and sovereignty.
