A fire broke out late Tuesday night in a three-story wooden house in Egkomi, causing extensive damage and prompting the precautionary evacuation of nearby residents.
According to Cyprus Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, emergency crews were alerted at 10:55 p.m., dispatching six staffed fire engines, including a telescopic boom truck, to the scene. Additional off-duty personnel were called in to support Nicosia fire stations.
The blaze primarily damaged the first floor of the home, while firefighting efforts also caused significant damage to the ground floor. Due to intense heat, police assisted in evacuating residents from an adjacent apartment building and house as a precaution.
The homeowners, who were inside at the time, managed to escape safely before firefighters arrived. Reinforcements from Larnaca and EMAK were deployed, and senior fire officials, including the District Fire Station Officer of Nicosia and the Operations Manager, coordinated the response on-site.
Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the fire later today in collaboration with the police.
