Former President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades received the prestigious EJA King Solomon Award on Monday evening in Larnaca. The award, presented by the European Jewish Association (EJA) and the Jewish Community of Cyprus, highlights his efforts to strengthen Cyprus-Israel relations during his presidency. The event was attended by dignitaries, including former Israeli President Reuven Rivlin.

Anastasiades expressed gratitude, emphasizing the shared principles between Cyprus and Israel, such as democracy, tolerance, and the fight against anti-Semitism. He outlined key achievements of bilateral collaboration, from defense and emergency response to energy, healthcare, and cultural exchanges. He also highlighted efforts to integrate Cyprus's Jewish community into the island’s cultural fabric.

The former president voiced hope for renewed Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, advocating for a two-state solution that respects Israel's territorial integrity and security.

Rivlin praised Cyprus's historical role in aiding Holocaust refugees, underscoring the island's longstanding solidarity with the Jewish people. "Cypriots were the only ones who gave Holocaust refugees shelter," he said, urging continued efforts to combat anti-Semitism and terrorism.

Yaron Zeloof, Head of the Jewish Community in Cyprus (JCC), highlighted the growing Jewish community's contributions to Cypriot life across sectors like real estate, education, and tourism. He also prayed for the safe return of hostages held in Gaza.

Rabbi Menachem Margolin, Head of EJA, commended Cyprus for fostering a safe and respectful environment for its Jewish population. "Cyprus is a beacon of how a country should engage with the Jewish people and Israel," Margolin stated.
