Nektarios Georgiou might have a controversial past, but these days, the monk is winning fans for a very sweet reason: his baking.
Once removed from the monastery of Osios Abbakoum in 2024 amid scandal, Georgiou has now gone viral on social media for his Easter creations, from fragrant tsourekia to fluffy flounes. Posting photos from the monastery’s kitchen, which he fondly calls the “archontariki,” he’s turning traditional baking into a modern online sensation.
He’s even catering to followers who fast, sharing simple, vegan-friendly versions of the treats. “Fasting is not deprivation. It’s a return to our inner selves,” he wrote alongside pictures of the delicacies, sparking hundreds of comments from fans asking where to buy the goodies, how much they cost, and even for the recipes.
What started as a humble monastery kitchen has now become a hotspot for Easter sweet lovers, proof that even a monk with a complicated history can capture the internet’s imagination with a bit of flour, sugar, and charm.
