History is written by the achievements of people, and one of them is Nikos Galis, the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis said Monday night at the Bank of Cyprus - Man of the Year Awards held in Limassol. He praised the Greek basketball legend and presented him with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
In a short greeting, President Anastasiadis congratulated winners, both past and present and said they were an inspiration to all, "as a result of their contribution, whether scientific, sports, or in general, their presence made our country proud ".
"History is written by the achievements of people and such a legend, a man who wrote history, is Nikos Galis, whom tonight the judges have rightly chosen to award", the President continued.
He added that Nikos Galis was responsible for making Greece world renowned in basketball due to his contribution and presence in the sport.
From his part, the honoree presented President Anastasiadis with a basketball with his signature.
Nikos Galis was also honored with the Supreme Honorary Distinction of KOA, by the President of the Organization, Andreas Michailidis.
Olympian Pavlos Kontidis received the "Man of the Year 2021" award.
Shortly before the start of the ceremony, President Anastasiadis had a brief meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who then sat down for consultations with Foreign Minister Christodoulidis. No statements were made after the meeting.
