Police are investigating after a group of hooded youths set fire to tyres on a road in the Linopetra area of Limassol on Monday night before running away as officers arrived.
According to Assistant Limassol Police Director Lefteris Kyriakou, the individuals had covered their faces with hoods and placed burning tyres in the roadway. Police patrols were sent to the scene immediately after receiving reports of the incident.
The group fled when they saw the patrol vehicles, and no arrests have yet been announced.
Investigators are carrying out enquiries and will collect evidence from the area in an effort to identify those responsible.
Police believe the incident is linked to youth offending. Kyriakou said the Limassol Police Directorate already has an operational plan in place to tackle juvenile crime and will continue efforts to identify those involved.
