January has already surpassed its typical rainfall levels, with precipitation reaching 104% of the monthly average so far. The recent weather systems have brought much-needed rain, significantly improving conditions across the island.

Speaking during a radio news program, Meteorological Department officer Michalis Mouskos explained that January’s rainfall has effectively exceeded expectations, adding that the two wettest months of the year have so far developed very favorably. He noted that the impact of the recent rainfall on dam water levels should become clearer in the coming days, as runoff continues from both the rain already recorded and additional showers forecast in the near term.

Rainy conditions are expected to persist, particularly from Tuesday afternoon into the evening. More scattered rain and isolated thunderstorms are forecast for Wednesday, while Thursday and Friday are likely to see only limited, localized showers. At the same time, intermittent snowfall or sleet is anticipated in the highest mountainous regions.

Temperatures recorded today ranged between 17 and 19 degrees Celsius, slightly above seasonal norms. Cooler conditions are expected tomorrow, with temperatures dropping to between 15 and 17 degrees, which aligns with average values for this time of year. Overall, no major temperature fluctuations are anticipated in the immediate period.

Looking ahead to February, Mr. Mouskos said medium-range forecasts extending to around 20 February suggest that unsettled weather will continue, with rainy spells occurring from time to time.
