The Bank of Cyprus, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth and Hermes Airports, hosted a hands-on educational workshop in Larnaca as part of its “Youth Ask and Provide Solutions” initiative. The event focused on environmental awareness, specifically the prevention and management of flooding.
Held at Larnaca International Airport through the Bank’s SupportCY platform and in collaboration with the University of Cyprus’ Koios Centre of Excellence for Research and Innovation, the workshop brought together 60 high school seniors from across the district. Participants engaged in interactive simulations of extreme weather scenarios, designed to strengthen climate resilience and encourage students to take personal responsibility for environmental protection.
Through teamwork and guided exercises, the students explored strategies for flood prevention, developed ideas for public awareness campaigns, and created actionable solutions suitable for both schools and local communities. The workshop concluded with students presenting their proposals, demonstrating creativity, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to building more resilient communities.

Elli Ioannidou, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Bank of Cyprus, praised the students’ energy and creativity, emphasizing the bank’s commitment to amplifying youth voices in tackling real-world challenges. Marios Stavrou, Head of Operations at SupportCY, highlighted the importance of early education on climate risks and explained that the simulations provided students with practical decision-making experience in realistic flood scenarios.
Dr. Matthaios Panteli from the University of Cyprus thanked the Bank of Cyprus for the initiative, noting that interactive learning experiences like this help young people understand how technology can support climate change solutions. Maria Kouroupi of Hermes Airports stressed the value of sustainability-focused programs and the benefits of cross-organizational collaboration in building stronger, more responsible communities.
The Bank of Cyprus and its partners plan to continue supporting initiatives that empower young people, promote environmental awareness, and encourage active social responsibility.
