President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades expressed grave concern about the “organised and increasing illegal flow of migrants through the Green Line” and told the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mustafa Akinci, that measures need to be taken.
“I conveyed to the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr. Akinci, our grave concern regarding the organised and increasing illegal flow of migrants through the Green Line, underlining that appropriate measures must be taken in order to prevent the further exacerbation of the situation,” Anastasiades wrote on twitter.
At a meeting at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, the President and several Ministers conveyed their concern over the inflated numbers of refugee and economic migrant arrivals on the island, with Interior Minister Nicos Nouris stressing that Cyprus is unable to cope with the influx.

On Tuesday, 101 migrants arrived in Cyprus in a 15-metre boat, having sailed from Mersin, Turkey. Earlier, the Government claimed that around 100 more migrants had crossed through the Green Line to Government-controlled territories, requesting asylum.
