Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou welcomed the announcement of the EU’s Action Plan for the management of migration in the Eastern Mediterranean, adding that some measures have already been implemented and have brought tangible results. Ioannou is in Luxembourg where he is attending the Justice and Home Affairs Council of the EU.
“Adoption of the action plan which includes our proposals is important and will make a substantial contribution to tackling migratory flows," Ioannou wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
"Some measures are already being adopted with tangible results. Over 50% reduction in flows from occupied territories in recent months," he added, retweeting an earlier statement from the Interior Ministry.
In the statement, the Interior Ministry says the Action Plan is a "useful tool for practical support to frontline EU member states in their efforts to more effectively address the increased pressures."
