Authorities have arrested the mother of a 10-year-old girl who tragically lost her life in a villa pool in Paphos on Thursday afternoon (20/07).
As reported by Press Spokesman and Head of Pafos CID, Michael Nicolaou, the 42-year-old woman was taken into custody based on a court warrant. She faces charges of female infanticide and causing death by reckless and thoughtless acts. Presently, she is being held at Pafos Hospital, and it has been alleged that she was intoxicated at the time of her arrest.
Due to suffering a panic attack, the 42-year-old woman is under police guard while being treated at Paphos General Hospital.
The incident occurred at approximately 16:10 on Thursday afternoon, where the lifeless body of the 10-year-old girl was found floating unconscious in the swimming pool of a private villa in the Coral Bay area. The Fire Department provided assistance in recovering the girl from the pool, but she was unfortunately pronounced dead.
Notably, the woman, aged 42 and of Russian nationality, and the 10-year-old girl had been staying at the mentioned mansion as guests since July 15.
The authorities' investigation into this tragic incident remains ongoing.
