A man in Limassol has been sentenced to eight years after he was convicted for sexually molesting and harassing his female niece up until she was thirteen.
According to local media, a 49-year-old man who faced a total of 41 charges had been convicted after being was found guilty of sexually harassing a female minor, who was also his relative by marriage.
The man took advantage of his niece’s natural fear of the dark, by seeking opportunities to act on his perverted and obscene desires against the innocent little girl
The Criminal Court in Limassol on Tuesaday handed down an eight-year sentence, citing the abhorrent acts by the uncle who was molesting his niece from age seven until she was 13 years old.
According to what was heard in court, the young girl was said to have been too afraid to speak out during the years of her ordeal, when she would often spend the night at her uncle’s.
The court heard how the man took advantage of his niece’s natural fear of the dark, by exploiting the situation and “seeking opportunities to act on his perverted and obscene desires” against the innocent little girl.
The sentence was described as an effort to serve as a deterrent, with the court noting that the man never stopped to consider that his illegal behaviour robbed the little girl of her right to having an innocent childhood.
