Cypriot champion Petros Mitsides, won the silver medal in the Throws Pentathlon at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg on August 26, as announced by the "The Pancyprians" Gymnastic Club (GSP).
Mitsidis delivered a strong performance across five events. He placed ninth in the hammer throw, third in the shot put, first in the discus throw, eighth in the javelin throw, and third in the weight throw, where the weight was 15.88kg. This overall performance earned him the silver medal. Earlier, on August 17, the 46-year-old athlete also secured a bronze medal in the individual shot put event with a throw of 14.26 meters.
"It was a very tough competition that lasted about eight hours," Mitsides said, adding that "I had to compete through significant pain in my back and knee, as well as fatigue from participating in various other individual events in the preceding days."
In the announcement, GSP praised Mitsides for continuing to make Cyprus proud by winning medals in international track and field competitions.
