Two separate violent incidents left men hospitalized in serious condition in Cyprus on Monday and Tuesday, authorities said, as police continue investigations and search for suspects.
In the Nicosia District, a 60-year-old man remains hospitalized with brain swelling following an argument in the Pera Oreinis area Tuesday evening. Police said the victim was intubated, and investigators from the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department are probing the circumstances. Arrests may be forthcoming, authorities added.
Meanwhile, in Limassol, police have identified two men wanted in connection with an attempted murder outside a luxury hotel on Monday. The suspects were named as David Gazzaev, 44, from Russia, and Stavros Kriarides, 39, from Greece. The victim, a 42-year-old Ukrainian man, was shot at close range in the abdomen and underwent surgery at Limassol General Hospital. His condition was reported as serious but stable.
Authorities said CCTV footage captured the suspects fleeing first on foot, then by car, which was later found abandoned on the Zygi coastal road. Initial reports suggest the incident stemmed from a financial dispute involving about ten people, all permanent residents of Cyprus. Police have not ruled out that the suspects may have fled into occupied areas of the island.
Both the Limassol and Nicosia criminal investigation teams are actively pursuing leads, and further statements are expected as the victims recover.
