Police in Paphos rescued a 61-year-old foreign man Friday night after he called for help but was unable to give his exact location.

Assistant Police Operations Director Michalis Nikolaou said the man phoned the emergency number 112 at about 7:56 p.m. local time, speaking in broken English. He reported that he had fallen into dense vegetation and could not move because of a health problem.

With the help of an interpreter, the man initially said he was in the coastal area of Geroskipou but could not provide more details.

Police patrols searched the coastline from Geroskipou westward but could not find him. Based on his description of the area during a follow-up call, officers concluded he was likely on the beach in the Vrexi area of Chloraka.

Officers found him there at about 9:20 p.m. and rescued him.

The man was taken by ambulance to the Accident and Emergency Department at Paphos General Hospital, where he received first aid and was later discharged.
