A new door is opening for cancer patients in Cyprus, and it leads to one of the most advanced treatments available anywhere in the world.
Hadassah Medical Organization in Israel is now offering proton therapy, a highly specialized form of radiotherapy that’s changing how some cancers are treated. And while it may sound like something out of a sci-fi movie, the real-world impact is simple: more precision, fewer side effects, and better protection for healthy parts of the body.
Here’s the idea in plain terms. Traditional radiotherapy uses radiation that passes through the body, often affecting both the tumor and nearby healthy tissue. Proton therapy, on the other hand, is far more targeted. It delivers radiation directly to the tumor with minimal “spillover,” which can make a big difference, especially when tumors are located near vital organs.
The catch? It’s incredibly rare.
Only about 1% of hospitals worldwide offer this kind of treatment. The technology is complex, the infrastructure is demanding, and the cost is high. That’s why developments like this are getting attention, not just in Israel, but here in Cyprus too.
Through medical tourism services coordinated by HC Management of Medical Center Plc, patients from Cyprus can now access proton therapy at Hadassah, with guidance every step of the way. In short, patients don’t have to figure it all out on their own; they’re being helped through the process, from referrals to travel arrangements.
For patients facing serious diagnoses, that kind of access can be a game changer.
It’s not a cure-all, and it’s not for every case. But for certain cancers, especially those in sensitive areas, it offers a level of precision that wasn’t widely available before.
And while the treatment itself happens abroad, the pathway to it is now much closer to home.
