The Municipality of Limassol has removed a series of bollards installed on Thekla Lysioti Street following public complaints and ongoing discussions over the implementation of transport projects in the city.
A municipal crew was dispatched to the area on Sunday to take out the posts, which had been placed near schools for student pick-up and drop-off arrangements. The action came after the municipality had formally requested changes to works being carried out by the Public Works Department.
According to Mayor Yiannis Armeftis, the municipality recently submitted an 11-point letter to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works outlining areas where adjustments are needed in projects linked to the city’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP).
The mayor said the decision to remove the bollards followed continued installation work at the site and reflected the municipality’s position that transport upgrades should be implemented in a practical and effective manner.
Municipal authorities maintain that improvements connected to the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan must enhance both functionality and safety across the city while taking into account the needs of residents, road users and local schools.
