The Strovolos Municipality has begun removing speed bumps from local streets, aiming to improve road safety and better serve residents. Mayor Stavros Stavrinidis was on hand for the first removal, watching the work closely.
But the real action was online. Residents flooded social media with sarcastic, funny, and occasionally exasperated comments about Cyprus’s love-hate relationship with speed bumps:
- “About time. Our cars have fallen apart from the bumps on the speed humps!”
- “Speed humps higher than the sidewalks hahaha.”
- “They removed one hump, made a show of it, and left another 300.”
- “Finally!!!! Bravo.”
- “So you’re making racetracks for the brainless! Congratulations.”
Other commenters used the thread to vent about dangerous humps, leftover traffic chaos, and even neighborhood garbage, proving that for Strovolos residents, civic improvements come with a healthy dose of humor and local wisdom.
With one hump gone and hundreds more under review, it seems Cyprus streets are finally ready for less bump and more banter.
