Tatar: ''No common ground for trilateral meeting''

''No one should expect negotiations to resume from where they left off in Crans-Montana. The pursuit of a federal solution ended there,''

In a recent statement, Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar asserted that he has not received an official invitation for a trilateral meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides. Tatar emphasized that there is no common ground or necessary conditions for such a meeting.

Reportedly from the occupied territories, Tatar expressed that under current circumstances, he does not accept the idea of a trilateral meeting, citing a lack of basis for productive discussions. "Our position on the conditions under which negotiations can begin is clear. Negotiations cannot commence until sovereign equality and equal international status are acknowledged," the statement read.

Tatar accused the Greek Cypriots of attempting to create a fait accompli to pressure the Turkish side. "We are not falling for these games. Christodoulides should stop chasing empty dreams and take into account the realities on the island," he added.

The statement reiterated the Turkish side's firm stance against returning to negotiations for a federal solution, referencing the failed talks at Crans-Montana. "No one should expect negotiations to resume from where they left off in Crans-Montana. The pursuit of a federal solution ended there," the statement argued.

Given the apparent lack of common ground, Tatar concluded that there is no need for a trilateral or any other form of meeting at this time.
