Natural Gas Infrastructure Company (ETYFA) Board of Directors meets at 10 am local time on Tuesday to discuss issue of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Vassiliko.
In a statement to CNA, ETYFA Vice President and Chairman of the Cyprus Electricity Authority George Petrou said that "tomorrow morning we will proceed with the decision to go out to tender for the contracting of a technical consultant (Project Manager) for the terminal project".
"The tender document has already been prepared and tomorrow the Board of Directors will approve it," he noted.
Petrou added that this is the first necessary step regarding the project, adding that "the technical consultant will guide ETYFA and monitor the contractors."
He also said that after the bid for the technical consultant, ETYFA will proceed with bids for contractors for the project.
It is recalled that the contract between the ETYFA and the CPP-METRON Consortium Ltd (CMC Ltd) for the construction of the Vassiliko terminal was terminated in July.
Energy Minister George Papanastasiou has said during an extraordinary meeting with the parliamentary committee for Energy at the end of July that the government would launch tenders for the completion of the terminal despite the termination of the contract with CMC, adding that by the first week of September the Republic of Cyprus is expected to reply to the European Commission regarding the €101 million with which the Commission financed the terminal and which it is asking to be returned.
