A 32-year-old mother and her 3-year-old daughter were injured in a car accident over the weekend in Paphos.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations, Michalis Nikolaou, the accident occurred on August 24, 2024, at around 9:40 p.m. The 32-year-old woman from Paphos was driving in the Tremithousa area towards Empa Avenue with her daughter seated in a child car seat in the back. Under circumstances still being investigated, she lost control of her vehicle, which veered off to the right, exited the road, overturned, and came to a stop in a ditch.

Police stated that the child was not secured with a seat belt in the car seat and was ejected from the vehicle.

Both the mother and daughter were injured in the crash and were taken to Paphos General Hospital. The 32-year-old underwent a narcotest, which reportedly indicated a positive result. The child was later transferred to Makarios Hospital in Nicosia, where she remains hospitalized.

The mother has been discharged from Paphos General Hospital and is staying with her daughter at Makarios Hospital.

Paphos Traffic Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Over the last three days, 179 traffic citations were issued as part of efforts to prevent road accidents. Of these, five were for driving under the influence of alcohol, four for driving under the influence of drugs, 61 for speeding, and the rest for various minor offenses, Nikolaou told the Cyprus News Agency.

Coordinated operations to prevent road accidents will continue in the future.
