Former Geroskipou Mayor Michalis Pavlidis, who served as Geroskipou's Mayor for 9 1/2 years, passed away this afternoon at the age of 67. He had submitted his resignation on November 26, 2021 due to health problems. Since then his duties were taken up by the deputy mayor of Geroskipou, Kyriakos Hadjivasilis.
According to Mr. Hadjivasilis, the Municipal Council of Geroskipou will meet within the next few hours in order to make arrangements for the former mayor's funeral.
Michalis Pavlidis was born in Geroskipou on January 28, 1955. He studied at the Doxiadis School in Athens in the Department of Construction. He then attended Princeton College in England. He was a businessman, shareholder and technical director of a land development and building company. He was a founding member and President of the Cultural Movement of Geroskipou. In the Municipal elections of 2011 he was elected Mayor of Geroskipou and was re-elected in the Municipal elections of 2016.
According to Mr. Hadjivasilis, the contribution of Michalis Pavlidis to the Municipality of Geroskipou was great, both from his position as Mayor for ten years and from his position as Municipal Councilor for 7.5 years. His contribution to the development and progress of Geroskipou was significant.
He is survived by his wife Athena Pavlidou, three children and grandchildren.
