About 50 masked individuals armed with various weapons stormed an Omonia fan club in Lakatamia on Sunday night, causing extensive damage and injuring three people, police said.
The attack occurred shortly after the Omonia-APOEL derby, the final matchday of the football championship, which ended in a 2–1 victory for Omonia.
According to police, the group entered the supporters’ club around 11 p.m., damaged property and injured three patrons, who were later taken to Nicosia General Hospital. Their injuries were not believed to be serious.
Authorities said the suspects have not been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
The incident was one of several linked to Sunday’s high-stakes rivalry match. Police said a woman was arrested outside the stadium during the game for verbally abusing officers.
Later that evening, officers responded to a report of a damaged vehicle near the stadium. While no immediate evidence was found, the vehicle’s owner later reported the incident at a local police station, stating that the damage occurred around 7 p.m. while driving near the venue.
In a separate incident, officers on routine patrol spotted several individuals near private football fields across from the stadium, appearing to prepare to vandalize property with spray paint. The suspects fled when police intervened.
