The magic of Christmas has lingered in the Troodos Mountains, where snowfall that began on Christmas Day has continued to blanket the region in white. As of Sunday, the snow has reached a depth of 15 centimeters, drawing locals and visitors to marvel at the breathtaking winter scenery.
Social media is brimming with photos and videos capturing the charm of Troodos in the snow. Snow-covered pine trees line the roads, and the picturesque villages look like scenes straight out of a holiday postcard. Families and friends have been heading up the mountains to enjoy the crisp air and seasonal magic, with many taking the opportunity to build snowmen and snap some unforgettable memories.
While Troodos basks in its frosty beauty, the rest of Cyprus has been experiencing steady rainfall since the early hours of the morning. But even the rainy weather can’t dim the joy of those lucky enough to witness the snowy transformation in the mountains.
With more snowfall expected in the days ahead, Troodos is offering a rare winter escape, reminding everyone that even in the Mediterranean, winter has its own enchanting surprises.

Today, get ready for a mix of weather. The skies will be mostly cloudy, with some local showers and isolated thunderstorms. Hail might even make a guest appearance during the thunderstorms! In the higher mountains, the snow is expected to keep falling, adding to the winter wonderland vibe. Winds will be light at first but will shift to moderate from the southwest to northwest as the day goes on. The sea might be a little rough, so if you're planning to head to the coast, keep that in mind. The temperatures will be around 14°C inland, 15°C along the coast, and a chilly 4°C in the higher mountains, where frost will set in.
Tonight, the clouds will stick around, with more showers and isolated thunderstorms. Snowfall is expected to continue in the mountains, so Troodos will remain a cozy, snowy retreat. Winds will be light to moderate, with the sea staying a bit rough. Temperatures will drop to around 4°C inland, 8°C on the coast, and a frosty -1°C in the mountains. Expect frost to settle in the lowlands as well.
Looking ahead to New Year’s Eve, we’re in for partly cloudy skies, with a chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms. Snow will still be falling in the higher mountains, but by the afternoon, things should calm down.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the weather will clear up, with some clouds popping in from time to time. Temperatures will gradually rise, bringing us closer to average seasonal values. And as of now, the snow depth on the highest peaks of Troodos stands at an impressive 14 cm, adding that extra festive charm to the mountains.
