Early-morning shooting in Mesogi, Paphos
The first incident occurred early Saturday morning in Mesogi. Police were alerted around 05:30 after reports of gunshots in a residential area. Officers located and arrested a 49-year-old man who, according to evidence under investigation, had fired shots outside a relative’s home using a hunting rifle.
Three spent cartridges were found at the scene, and antennas on the home’s roof were damaged by the gunfire. The rifle believed to have been used was later found placed on a nearby property’s wall. No injuries were reported.
The suspect faces charges including firing shots in a residential area, illegal possession and transport of a firearm and explosives, carrying a weapon to cause terror, and malicious damage to property. The case is being investigated by Paphos CID.
Late-night gunfire outside offices in Nicosia
Roughly 24 hours later, a second incident unfolded in the Strovolos area of Nicosia. Shortly before midnight on Saturday, gunshots were fired at a building housing company offices. Police cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area. As in the Paphos case, no injuries were reported.
Two days, two scenes of gunfire
While the incidents appear unrelated, their occurrence within two consecutive days, one in a residential village and the other at an office building, has drawn attention. Investigations in both districts are ongoing as police work to determine the circumstances behind each incident.
