President Nikos Christodoulides reaffirmed the state's responsibility to provide high-quality healthcare for cancer patients at the PASYKAF Conference, "Stronger Together," held in Nicosia from January 31 to February 1.

"Our government remains a steadfast supporter of your efforts," Christodoulides stated, emphasizing partnerships in healthcare improvement, early diagnosis, and patient rights. He highlighted the expansion of breast cancer screening for women aged 45-74 and new prevention programs for colorectal, prostate, and cervical cancer, alongside HPV vaccinations for boys and girls.

The President also announced plans for a National Cancer Institute to oversee oncology services and a forthcoming law on palliative care. "Every day presents an opportunity for improvement. The state must ensure comprehensive, high-quality healthcare for cancer patients and all citizens," he said.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in a recorded message, reiterated the EU's commitment to cancer prevention and care, citing the European Cancer Plan’s progress. She noted that by 2028, a network of 100 specialized cancer centers would be established across Europe.

The conference featured speeches from key officials, including Members of the European Parliament Michalis Hadjipantela and Giorgos Georgiou, as well as former European Commissioner for Health Stella Kyriakides. Sessions focused on patient empowerment, mental health, and caregiver support. The second part of the conference took place on February 1.
