US Ambassador to Cyprus Julie Davis has expressed condolences following the death of Phivos Constantinides, a longtime and widely respected figure at GSP Stadium, whose name became closely tied to Cyprus’ sporting life over the years.
Constantinides was known to generations of athletes, football supporters, and visitors to the stadium, where he played an active role for many years and became a familiar and welcoming presence. Beyond football matches, he was also known for supporting young athletes who trained at the GSP facilities and for helping promote sports culture in Cyprus.
His passing prompted tributes from people across the island’s sports community, with many remembering him not only for his dedication to the stadium, but also for his warmth, hospitality, and love of the game.
In a message shared publicly, Ambassador Davis described Constantinides as a friend who introduced her to football in Cyprus.
“It is with great sadness that I learned about the passing of Phivos Constantinidis. I was lucky to know him as a friend, always welcoming me to GSP Stadium and introducing me to soccer in Cyprus. He was a devoted fan of the game and his enthusiasm was infectious. As was his support for the many athletes who trained at GSP. His warmth and joy will be greatly missed. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”
