Cyprus appears to have entered that very specific time of year when the weather wakes up each morning, glances out the window and changes its mind three times before breakfast.
Today begins quietly enough, with patches of low cloud lingering lazily along the coast while much of the island slowly shakes itself awake. But don’t let the calm start fool you. By midday, the atmosphere is expected to become more lively as clouds begin building over the mountains, inland areas and eastern parts of the island.
That means scattered showers, isolated thunderstorms and, because apparently the weather enjoys keeping everyone alert, even the possibility of hail during stronger storms.
Winds will also gather confidence as the day goes on, arriving from the southwest to northwest and strengthening through the afternoon. Southern coastal areas may briefly turn especially gusty later in the day, while the sea trades its calm morning mood for rougher conditions in some areas by afternoon.
Temperatures will climb to around 30°C inland, about 28°C along southeastern and eastern coasts, near 25°C across western and northern areas and around 20°C in the higher mountains.
In other words: warm enough for flip-flops, unpredictable enough to keep a small umbrella somewhere nearby “just in case.”
Tonight, low cloud is expected to drift back into western areas, where a few light showers may appear later on. Winds will ease slightly overnight, although coastal areas will stay breezy.
Friday keeps the island’s weather roulette wheel spinning, with periods of cloud, possible morning showers in the west and another chance of isolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms later in the day, especially in southern and eastern areas.
Saturday continues with afternoon cloud build-up and scattered showers mainly around Troodos and nearby regions, while Sunday finally offers a more peaceful-looking forecast, with mostly clear skies and only the slightest chance of a mountain shower after midday.
Temperatures are expected to stay close to seasonal averages through the weekend, leaving Cyprus suspended somewhere between late spring freshness and summer stubbornly knocking at the door.
