Friday has arrived, school holidays are settling in, and Father's Day is waiting just around the corner. The weekend forecast is bringing plenty of sunshine for family outings, beach trips and barbecues, although the mountains may once again have their own ideas.
Today will begin on a mostly pleasant note, with sunshine and occasional cloud. As temperatures rise, clouds will build over the mountains and inland areas, bringing the chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon. For most of the island, however, the day should remain dry.
Winds will blow from the southwest to west at light to moderate strengths, becoming a little more enthusiastic at times along the southern coast. Seas will remain slight.
Temperatures will reach around 34°C inland, 30°C along most coastal areas, a cooler 26°C on the west coast and 23°C in the higher mountains.
Tonight will be mostly clear, although patches of low cloud, mist or fog may develop locally during the early hours.
The forecast for the weekend and Monday is reassuringly familiar. Most areas will enjoy fine weather, while afternoon cloud development may trigger isolated showers, and the occasional thunderstorm, mainly over mountainous and inland districts.
For anyone planning Father's Day celebrations on Sunday, the weather looks largely cooperative. Just don't be surprised if the mountains decide to provide a little afternoon entertainment of their own.
