Police said 60-year-old Androula Papachristoforou from Paphos was on foot on Priamou Street on Sunday night around 9:15pm when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
The vehicle, described by local media as a white sedan, left the scene of the accident according to reports, while Papachristoforou was rushed to the Emergency Room at Paphos General Hospital where doctors fought to keep her alive but she succumbed to her injuries some two hours later.
Police did not disclose details about the vehicle thought to have been involved but called on anyone with information regarding the circumstances of the incident to come forward by calling Paphos Traffic Police at 26.806.101, contacting the nearest police station, or dialing the citizen hotline at 1460.
Papachristoforou’s death was the second fatality in Paphos district on the weekend, after a British young man was killed in a rollover accident in Peyia on Sunday morning.
