KRU Overseas Ltd., a global supplier of high-quality coal, continues to supply coal to Cyprus heavy industry leader, Vassiliko Cement Works Public Company Ltd.
The first contract for the supply of high-quality coal Vassiliko Cement Works was concluded in September 2019. This year, KRU Overseas won a tender to deliver another batch of premium material, which will be shipped in July to the port of Vassiliko.
The cement industry is one of the leading areas in the production of building materials. The industry provides the primary needs of population in creating social, transport and engineering infrastructure. This is extremely important at the current time, amid Covid-19 pandemic, when the return of the world industry to the normal operating mode, which ensures economic development and employment, is a critical task both for Cyprus and the whole world.
Being founded in 1963, Vassiliko Cement Works Public Company Ltd. is one of the oldest and largest heavy industries in Cyprus. The Company operates in clinker and cement production sectors and manages four quarries for the extraction of raw materials, which are used exclusively for cement production. The installation of a new, state of the art clinker plant, along new European Standards, was completed in 2011. Vassiliko Cement Works strives continuously to develop across all levels of its operations, whilst upgrading and investing in line with the latest environmentally friendly technology. As the protection of the environment is a top priority, Vassiliko Cement Works reduced the use of conventional solid fuels by more than 50% during the last few years. Further, Vassiliko Cement Works constructed its own Photovoltaic Park of 8MWp, which is in operation since February 2020, contributing to the global effort for CO2 emissions reductions.
