Authorities in Limassol are stepping up inspections of barbershops and small businesses run by foreigners, following a wave of complaints and arrests, officials said Tuesday.

The crackdown, which ran from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., involved the Limassol Regional Police, the Ministry of Labor, the Labor Inspection and Social Insurance Department, and the Taxation Department. Teams visited 20 barbershops and mini markets across streets including Agias Fylaxeos, Gladstonos, Franklin Roosevelt, and Misiaouli.

Police said eight of the premises were closed, while several others were flagged for illegal activity. Two barbershops were operating without a license, and three mini markets were cited for lacking proper business and tobacco licenses.

During the inspections, two individuals were arrested for illegal employment and one more for identification issues, while fines were issued for undeclared work totaling €4,000. Around 50 foreign employees were questioned, with no further violations detected.

Officials said the inspections are part of an ongoing campaign and will be intensified in the coming weeks, emphasizing that the measures aim to ensure compliance with local labor and business regulations.
