Pharmacies to end after-hour and weekend services amid dispute

Pancyprian Pharmaceutical Association halts two-day stay lists over working hours controversy

Newsroom

In a recent decision, the Pancyprian Pharmaceutical Association (PFA) has announced that it will no longer compile the lists for pharmacies that offer after-hours and weekend services. This move comes as a response to ongoing disputes over working hours and part-time regulations.

The PFA has informed the Ministry of Health’s Pharmaceutical Services about this change. According to a statement from the association, the issues with working hours and part-time work are linked under the same regulations, meaning changes in one area directly impact the other.

Plutarchos Georgiades, President of the PFA, explained that the association's patience has worn thin. For the past two years, they have been addressing appeals from pharmacists regarding working hours, while many pharmacists’ rights remain unaddressed. Georgiades noted that some pharmacies have either been violating the prescribed working hours or have obtained temporary court orders to bypass these regulations. This non-compliance is negatively affecting the operation of pharmacies that offer after-hours and weekend services.

The decision to halt the compilation of these lists marks a significant shift in how pharmacy services are managed and highlights ongoing challenges in balancing regulatory compliance with operational demands.
