The number of registered unemployed people in Cyprus dropped by 8.9% in August compared to the same month last year, according to data from the Statistical Service of Cyprus (CyStat). This marks a decrease of 1,177 people, bringing the total number of unemployed to 12,079.
CyStat reported that on the last day of August 2024, the number of job seekers registered at District Labour Offices stood at 12,079. Seasonally adjusted data, which smooths out fluctuations to show the underlying trend, indicated 11,197 unemployed, roughly the same as the previous month.
The year-over-year decline was largely due to fewer job losses in sectors like finance, insurance, construction, trade, and manufacturing, as well as a drop in new job market entrants, CyStat said.
