Tesla unveils feature called 'Actually Smart Summon' or ASS for short

The new automated driving tool lets cars navigate parking lots on their own, but drivers still need to stay alert.

This feature was supposed to be available two years ago but faced several delays. The launch comes after Tesla switched to a system that relies only on cameras, which temporarily affected some of its driver-assist features.

Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, had promised this feature would arrive several times. First, he said it would be ready by September 2022, but that didn’t happen. He then set a new deadline for April 2023, which also came and went.

With the latest update, Tesla is now offering ASS. This feature lets you use your Tesla app to have your car drive itself to you or to a spot you choose in parking lots and driveways. You can see what your car is doing through a live video feed on the app.

Tesla has also introduced a simpler feature called Dumb Summon, which allows you to move the car forward or backward using basic controls on your phone.

Even though the car can drive itself, you still need to keep an eye on it. Tesla says you should use these features only in parking lots or driveways and stay alert to your car’s surroundings. The company is also working on making it possible for the car to handle longer distances without needing you to hold down a button and plans to add features to control garage doors.
