For the first time in history, neither Cambridge nor Oxford are at the top of British universities: At the top of the rankings is now the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
This is the first time in almost 30 years that the Times list has topped another university known in Britain as the Oxbridge University duo
In Britain, there is talk of an end to the dominance of the two classic universities of central England, whose graduates are generally the icing on the cake of British politics, science and society in general, with the exception of economics and the arts.
The official list of British universities, edited annually by the Times and Sunday Times, shows a historic upheaval in 2022, with the ever-rising University of St Andrews in Scotland climbing two places off the 2021 list and to overtake Oxford and Cambridge.
This is the first time in almost 30 years that the Times list has topped another university known in Britain as the Oxbridge University duo, and in no other ranking has a third university ever taken first place.
So the Scottish university institute made history on Friday, partly due to its excellent adaptation to the need for pandemic telecommuting, which the more traditional institutions of Oxford and Cambridge had some difficulty achieving.
