Five-year-old Abraham Christoforou is fighting for his life after being diagnosed with Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis, a rare and severe autoimmune neurological disease. His family has appealed for urgent financial and state support to transfer him abroad for specialized treatment.
Speaking to ANT1, his mother, Andrea Christoforou said, “His condition right now is critical and he urgently needs specialized treatment, which unfortunately is not available in our country.” She added, “His transfer and hospitalization there could prove crucial for his health.”
According to Andrea, hospitals abroad, particularly in Israel, have the experience and facilities needed for such cases.
“What we want as a family is to appeal to the authorities and the State, asking for their support so that our child can have access to the treatment he needs,” she said. “So far, we have received no response either from the Presidential Office or from the Ministry of Health.”
She also stated that officials told them “they are considered migrants” because the family has been living in England in recent years, and that there has been “no other communication” from the authorities.
The family estimates the cost of treatment and transfer at £300,000 to £350,000. Andrea concluded with an urgent plea. “Abraham’s transfer must take place as soon as possible. Every day that passes is critical.”
