Authorities discovered 14 mobile phones and 12 charging cables carefully concealed inside the insulation of a small refrigerator intended for an inmate. The find was made by the Prison Department’s Administration and the police during a surveillance operation conducted as part of ongoing efforts to prevent the smuggling of contraband into the facility.
According to a statement from the Prison Department, the refrigerator had been delivered to the department's electronics storage as a replacement for an inmate’s old refrigerator, which was kept in their cell. The replacement had been approved by the administration following a formal request.
The statement added that all confiscated items were handed over to the police for forensic analysis and further examination.
The police have taken over the investigation and have already begun collecting statements, the statement concluded.
