President Nicos Christodoulides’ upcoming official visit to the United States in April is focused on strengthening Cyprus’ ties with the US and attracting investments, part of a broader government strategy. During his visit, the President is scheduled to meet with potential investors and business leaders in New York and Washington DC.

According to an article written by Kathimerini's Dorita Yiannakou, Cyprus is looking to develop cooperation in key sectors such as shipping, energy, financial services, and technology, where it sees significant potential for collaboration.

The Cypriot mission aims to highlight the advantages of investing in Cyprus, focusing on the country’s favorable investment environment. Government sources note that the goal is not only to attract substantial investments but also high-quality, productive investments that will drive the country's economic development. The mission will emphasize Cyprus' comparative advantages over other competitive investment destinations.

To help with this effort, Cyprus has engaged the international communications firm Kreab, which is running a campaign to enhance the country's image abroad. The messaging will focus on the recent measures Cyprus has taken to improve its business environment and correct previous inefficiencies.

During the visit, the President’s meetings will target the development of partnerships and joint ventures, particularly in technology, where Cyprus hopes to tap into US know-how. The shipping sector is another focus, with President Christodoulides scheduled to speak at a shipping conference in New York on April 4. There is also interest in potential investment and cooperation in the energy sector. Additionally, meetings have been planned with US banks and private equity firms to attract capital to Cyprus and foster partnerships in the financial services industry.

A significant milestone for Cyprus is its progress toward joining the US Visa Waiver Program, which would allow Cypriot nationals to travel to the US without a visa for up to 90 days. The final approval for this is expected soon, with US officials set to visit Cyprus to finalize the details.

In addition to attracting foreign investments, the government is also addressing the issue of brain drain by fostering partnerships with the US to strengthen the local business scene. Efforts are underway to create a competitive and innovative environment that promotes stable growth and quality employment. Initiatives include enhancing digital capabilities, strengthening research and innovation, and improving energy planning. Cyprus is also focusing on diversifying its economy, leveraging opportunities arising from its EU and Eurozone membership.

The government is considering actions to encourage Cypriot scientists working abroad to return home. This includes offering incentives for companies seeking qualified professionals, ensuring attractive job conditions, high salaries, and opportunities for advancement.
