A meeting scheduled for next Tuesday on the Cyprus-Greece electricity interconnection project is considered crucial by all parties involved, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said Friday.

During a press briefing, Letymbiotis explained that the meeting, initiated by Cyprus, aims to clarify all aspects of the project to ensure transparency and address any ambiguities. The goal, he said, is to ensure the project helps reduce electricity costs for Cypriot households.

Letymbiotis noted that delays stem from the need for thorough legal and economic reviews. He added that Cyprus is in contact with the European Investment Bank for further assessments and is working with Greece and the European Union on the project's next steps.

While some concerns about the project remain, including geopolitical risks and financial implications, Letymbiotis emphasized that the government is committed to moving forward in a way that benefits consumers.

He dismissed rumors of mistrust between Cyprus and Greece, reiterating that both governments are in regular communication about the project, which is of shared European interest.

Letymbiotis also said the government is open to possible involvement from U.S. companies in the project but did not confirm any specifics. The primary focus, he said, remains on easing the burden on Cypriot consumers.
