The “Let’s Go Troodos!” Festival, organized by First Lady Philippa Karsera Christodoulides, attracted large crowds on Saturday at the Presidential Residence in Troodos, marking the first time the venue opened to the public. The event, part of the First Lady's charity efforts, aimed to promote local small businesses and featured traditional Cypriot food, crafts, and products.
Despite heavy rainfall in the afternoon, visitors enjoyed the festival's offerings, including free admission and transportation. Among the attendees were President Nicos Christodoulides and other government officials who visited the booths and interacted with exhibitors. Proceeds from the event will support Rural Community Welfare Councils.
The First Lady, along with officials, expressed a shared goal to make the festival an annual event, expanding it to other regions like Nicosia. They also emphasized the importance of supporting local artisans and producers through national and European programs.
Deputy Minister of Tourism Costas Koumis praised the local craftsmanship on display and reiterated the government's commitment to promoting rural and mountain communities. Minister of Agriculture Maria Panayiotou highlighted the festival as a valuable opportunity for direct engagement with farmers and producers.
The event also included a tribute to Cyprus’ first President, Archbishop Makarios III, with a mapped path leading to his favorite bench, part of a new initiative supported by the Forestry Department.
Despite the weather, the festival’s success underscored the public's enthusiasm for Cyprus' mountainous regions and local traditions.
