Cypriot police, working alongside Interpol, are searching for the source behind a false tip that led to a dramatic anti-terror operation at Larnaca Airport.

The incident unfolded around 11:00 a.m. when authorities were alerted that a suspected terrorist was on board a flight arriving from Moldova. Responding swiftly, police, the fire department, and the anti-terrorism squad mobilized, arresting the suspect upon landing. A crisis response plan was also activated, leading to the diversion of another flight to Paphos Airport.

The suspect, a 46-year-old man living in Cyprus with his family, was detained and interrogated for hours. However, after extensive questioning and a thorough search of all passengers’ luggage, no evidence of wrongdoing was found. Authorities confirmed that he had never been on their radar for any security concerns.

The incident has left investigators with pressing questions: How was this specific individual singled out among 104 passengers? Was the tip-off a mistake, or was there another motive behind it?

Authorities are now focusing on tracing the origin of the information. Identifying the source of the tip is critical, as it may reveal whether the report was a case of misinformation, a personal vendetta, or something more sinister.

As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement agencies are determined to uncover who provided the false lead and why—ensuring that such an incident does not happen again.
